Gina Cardenas, a Colombian national, is a Private Sector Development Specialist working on business climate assessment projects at the Subnational B-READY team within the World Bank’s Global Indicators Group (DECIG). Cardenas’s career has included influential contributions to efforts to shape data-driven policy reforms to foster private sector growth across Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and OECD economies. Before joining the Subnational B-READY team in 2024, Cardenas served as a Competitiveness and Innovation Economist at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). In this role, she led high-level policy dialogues with national and subnational governments to enhance business environments, promote innovation, and empower dynamic entrepreneurship ecosystems. Her work has spanned a diverse portfolio, including loan operations, advisory services, and evidence-based knowledge products pivotal for guiding public policy decisions. Cardenas holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in economics from Universidad del Norte, Colombia. She speaks Spanish and Portuguese.
