The opportunity to engage in pro bono work. B-READY project’s aim is to publish an annual report (available at no cost) that assesses around 180 economies’ business environments for private sector development and growth, consistent with the twin goals of the World Bank – to eliminate extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet.
The opportunity to utilize their international expertise in a socially beneficial way. The B-READY report will inform economies how to improve their business environment, thus stimulating economic growth and creating new jobs in all economies where a firm or organization operates.
The opportunity to engage in a truly global project where all offices of a global firm or organization can participate. The participation is manageable timewise, with a defined scope. B-READY will have the same predictable timeline and will assess the same topics ever year.
The opportunity to contribute expertise on laws and regulations that directly affect businesses. These include the areas of corporate, employment, real estate, commercial litigation, bankruptcy and collateral law, to name a few. In other words, no additional legal research is needed for the experts to participate.

Why B-READY is a pro bono project
B-READY initiative provides a powerful avenue to help lift the poor and underprivileged in the economies worldwide. Experts’ contribution to our data can help lead to regulatory reforms that break down barriers for small and medium enterprises and create an environment conducive to investment, entrepreneurship, and inclusive economic development.
B-READY data supports the development of robust legal frameworks and helps build capacity within critical institutions such as business registries, land registries, credit bureaus, collateral registries, courts, and tax agencies, among others. B-READY data will foster business regulatory reforms that prioritize environmental sustainability, inclusivity, and gender equality, ensuring that the benefits of economic growth are shared by all segments of society.
B-READY report provides data-driven diagnostics to pinpoint priority areas for reforms in each economy’s context. Many developing nations face substantial regulatory hurdles that stifle their economic potential. Burdensome requirements around starting a business, accessing credit, obtaining construction permits, paying taxes, and trading across borders can suppress private sector growth and job creation. For example, the data supplied by the B-READY can increase:
✓ transparency of credit information in various economies by enabling a rise in small and medium firms' access to loans
✓ firm formalization rates and tax bases to support public services by streamlining business registration, lowering barriers to entry and creating incentives for formalization
✓ labor force participation and economic empowerment of underserved groups like women by strengthening land titling systems
✓ firm value, investment, performance and growth of small and medium enterprises by strengthening legal institutions, access to justice, contract enforcement, and insolvency and transparent governance
