In Fiscal Year (FY) 2024, the Partnership made significant contributions to water security initiatives, with a focus on climate adaptation, financial viability, and gender equity in the water sector. GWSP's efforts are integral to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and mobilizing private investment for sustainable water management.

Key Fiscal Year 2024 Achievements:

  • GWSP influenced over $9.3 billion in new World Bank lending through more than 240 activities across 70 countries, including 46 initiatives in fragile and conflict-affected regions, demonstrating the Bank's capacity to tackle complex water challenges globally.
  • GWSP supported 34 countries in strengthening the capabilities of their water-related institutions, promoting efficient management and service delivery through the adoption of digital solutions.
  • 83% of GWSP grants addressed climate adaptation, mitigation, or both. These grants include support for activities that aim to improve water quality in watersheds in countries such as Fiji.
  • GWSP assisted 31 countries in developing policies, strategies, and regulatory frameworks to enhance the financial sustainability of their water and sanitation sectors. For instance, it helped the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation improve its environment for mobilizing private capital.
  • GWSP helped design projects to overcome barriers to women’s employment in the sector. 93% of IDA-financed water operations approved in FY24 included actions to create employment opportunities for women.
