Digital services can enhance government efficiency, improve service delivery, and create new opportunities for innovation. A key focus of the World Bank is advancing digital public infrastructure (DPI)—underpinned by building blocks like digital identity, digital payments, and trusted data sharing—that can be leveraged for improved digital services and transactions across the public and private sectors.
This work includes supporting the development of interoperable government architectures, data hosting solutions, and streamlined processes, as well as promoting use cases in sectors like government-to-person (G2P) payments, social protection, health, financial services, agriculture, civil service reform, and education. The Bank also emphasizes capacity building for government officials, establishing training centers, and enhancing global e-government benchmarks through research, partnerships, and events.
This work is supported through the World Bank Group’s Global DPI Program, including the Identification for Development (ID4D) and Digitalizing Government-to-Person Payments (G2Px) initiatives. By strengthening governance and expanding access to digital solutions, the Bank helps countries build more inclusive, efficient and resilient digital systems that underpin sustainable development.
