The population of young people aged 15-24 in Africa is projected to reach 500 million in 2080. The growing working-age population presents an enormous opportunity to super-charge economic growth and lead to greater prosperity for billions of people on the continent but only if the people are healthy, educated, and skilled, this projected working-age population can be the long-awaited big push to accelerate the region's economic growth.
Acknowledging that youth in Africa are crucial for sustainable development and serve as key drivers of social change, economic growth, and technological innovation, the World Bank actively advocates for their empowerment. This involves increasing youth participation in decision-making processes, enhancing opportunities for youth employment, involving youth in peacebuilding and gender equality programs, and ensuring their meaningful engagement in the integration and implementation of our projects.
