Closing economic and social gaps between men and women is essential for countries to realize their full economic potential. With the South-West Roads Project, the Government has taken a critical step in this direction. In situations where men are not necessarily used to treating women as equals, there can be a potential risk of sexual exploitation and abuse. The Government sought to identify and implement policies to help manage this risk, which were introduced by contractors at even the most remote construction sites. This has helped create a more comfortable and safer environment for women, and a more successful project.
