More than 10 million people in Tanzania and Zanzibar benefit from the many essential services that oceans provide. However, a rapidly growing population and increased fishing activity have led to overfishing, seriously reducing fish stocks, putting Tanzania’s coastal and marine resources, which are critical to its economy, are at risk. Ocean’s resources can be preserved if more sustainable practices are adopted—practices that not only raise economic productivity and generate more valuable products but also give nature the time to regenerate its resources for the benefit of today’s and future generations.
