The Pudhu Vaazhvu Project (PVP) is a World Bank assisted women’s empowerment and poverty reduction project implemented Government of Tamil Nadu in India. Working with a community driven development approach, this project attempts to target the multiple dimensions of poverty by facilitating access to affordable credit, building market linkages to improve livelihoods, implementing a skills training and job placement program. The project works in partnership with local governments to improve state accountability for the delivery of local programs and services. Launched in 2006, the project currently reaches over 3 million households in the poorest areas of the state. The Social Observatory has worked in collaboration with PVP since 2011.
