WASHINGTON, April 26 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Luhut Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment, Indonesia.
President Malpass and Minister Pandjaitan discussed Indonesia’s energy transition efforts, including a just transition away from coal investments; and trade issues, including Indonesia’s restrictions on the export of palm oil.
President Malpass emphasized to Minister Pandjaitan the importance of keeping markets open, avoiding construction of new coal-fired power plants and finding negotiated solutions for the decommissioning of the existing fleet in a manner that prioritizes impact. President Malpass also highlighted the substantial opportunities for gains by optimizing the balance sheets of state-owned enterprises to free up funds for climate-smart investments.
