World Bank Statement on the Passing of Bank Vice President Jan Walliser

Washington, June 23, 2018— The World Bank today issued the following statement on the passing of Jan Walliser, Vice President of the World Bank’s Equitable Growth, Finance, and Institutions (EFI) Global Practice.

“World Bank staff across the globe are mourning the loss of our dear friend and respected colleague, Jan.

Jan affected the lives of so many staff, clients, and partners, and he elevated our organization in ways that will be evident for years to come.

Prior to being appointed as Vice President, EFI, he was Director, Strategy and Operations of the Africa Region, providing operational and strategic leadership to staff operating in 48 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Jan previously held several other senior positions within the Bank, making a significant impact on the lives of people around the world in every office he held.

Before his World Bank career, Jan was as an economist at the International Monetary Fund and principal analyst at the U.S. Congressional Budget Office, where he provided advice to the United States Congress on Social Security reform and tax reform.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Oya Celasun, and their two young sons, Julian and Noah. "
