Sri Lanka Pandemic Preparedness Assessment (2020-2023)

The Sri Lanka Pandemic Preparedness Assessment, aimed to help the government optimize health investments and improve preparedness for future pandemics, especially considering the needs of a rapidly aging population.

Key achievements of the project include:

  • Investigated the impact of COVID-19 on routine healthcare delivery, highlighting supply chain disruptions, workforce shifts, and patient access challenges.
  • Provided a comprehensive assessment of Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 preparedness and response, influencing the Ministry of Health’s strategies for future health emergencies.
  • Analyzed potential efficiency gains in the health system to enhance routine service delivery.
  • Facilitated knowledge exchange events and a visit to Japan for Sri Lankan health officials to learn strategies for efficiently reorganizing healthcare to meet the growing demand for elderly care.

This project has strengthened Sri Lanka's capacity to manage health emergencies and improve healthcare services.
