The Reproducible Research Fundamentals course is designed to teach research assistants and analysts best practices for reproducible research. Participants will learn how to implement transparent and reproducible workflows, to effectively code in a team environment, and to keep personal data secure throughout the lifecycle of a research project. The course will cover best practices at all stages of the data workflow, from data management to cleaning, tidying, constructing indicators, analysis, and exporting reproducible outputs.

The course will be held in-person in Washington, DC, from September 30 to October 3, 2024. It will use a combination of technical lectures, hands-on practice exercises, software demonstrations, and panel discussions. Participants are expected to be familiar with either Stata or R. By the end of the course, participants will have the skills and knowledge necessary to prepare and publish reproducibility packages to the Reproducible Research Repository.

Through the course, participants will learn:

    • Why reproducibility matters in development economics research
    • How to use GitHub for effective and transparent collaboration
    • How to effectively process data for reproducible analysis
    • Best practices for indicator construction and data analysis
    • Principles for working with personal data
    • How to create reproducible research outputs and packages
