Innovations for climate action: Uruguay’s landmark deal

Azucena Arbeleche is the first woman in history to hold this position in Uruguay. She has a Master in Applied Economics from the Catholic University of Chile and a Bachelor of Economics from the School of Economic Sciences and Administration of the University of the Republic of Uruguay. Throughout her distinguished career, Ms. Arbeleche has worked in the public and private sectors, and is worth noting her leadership as Director of the Debt Management Unit of Uruguay’s Ministry of Economy and Finance between 2011 and 2014. She was also an Advisor to the Ministry of Economy and Finance and a collaborator of the Center for Economic and Financial Research in Santiago de Chile, among other responsibilities. Minister Arbeleche’s teaching career includes being a member of the faculty at the University of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, the Catholic University of Uruguay and the University of Montevideo, as well as the Pontifical Catholic University and the Andrés Bello University in Chile, and San Carlos University in Paraguay.

Axel van Trotsenburg is the World Bank Managing Director of Operations. In this role, Mr van Trotsenburg oversees the Bank’s operational program and ensures that the Bank’s delivery model continues to meet the needs of client countries.  He also builds support and mobilizes financial resources across the international community for efforts to assist low and middle-income countries.
