Virtual Parliamentary Meeting on Fragility, Conflict and Violence
  • A Virtual Parliamentary Meeting on the World Bank Fragility, Conflict and Violence (FCV) Strategy will be held on Wednesday, May 6 from 10:00-11:30 AM EST (2:00-3:30 PM GMT). The meeting, co-organized by the World Bank and the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and IMF will be an occasion for legislators and their staff to learn about how their parliaments can take action to enhance country outcomes in fragile and conflict-affected nations.

As poverty is falling around the world, it is increasing in countries impacted by FCV, where it is estimated that up to two-thirds of the world’s extreme poor will live by 2030. The recent health and economic threats posed by the COVID-19 pandemic only risk to compound the situation further. The World Bank Group is doing more, and doing it differently, expanding its commitments to the most vulnerable communities in fragile situations through long-term, multi-faceted and tailored approaches to meet national and regional needs. COVID-19 financing is also prioritized to countries in fragile and conflict settings.

Parliamentarians play an important role in delivering results in these challenging environments through policies to improve development results, oversight of projects, and monitoring targeted financing. The virtual meeting on FCV will serve as a platform for dialogue with experts as well as parliamentarians and their staff from around the world on how to take purposeful, coordinated action to tackle fragility and eradicate conflict for improved country outcomes.
