The Virtual Parliamentary Briefing on Pandemics with a special focus on COVID-19 will engage legislators from across the globe with World Bank Group senior management and experts on how to take rapid, coordinated action to mitigate the negative human and economic effects of COVID-19 and future pandemics. World Bank Speakers include Mari Pangestu, Managing Director for Development Policy and Partnerships.
Parliamentarians are at the forefront of the response in many countries to this unprecedented health crisis, passing exceptional measures and emergency bills to address it. This meeting will serve as a platform for them to learn more about pandemics, the experiences and best practices of their peers, and the World Bank Group’s role in providing policy advice, technical assistance, and emergency support tailored to countries’ unique needs. They will explore legislative efforts they can adapt to their country to bolster physical and human capital, protect the private sector, and limit the negative social and economic impacts on the most vulnerable.
