Globally, cities contribute to 70% of the greenhouse gas emissions. China’s rapid urbanization has fueled the unprecedented growth of the country over the past three decades and is expected to continue. Noting the significance of cities’ actions, the side event is to facilitate dialogues between central level policy makers, sub-national leaders and mayors and international development institutions on opportunities and challenges for cities pursuing their low carbon development path. XIE Zhenhua, China Special Envoy on Climate Change will open the side event.
