The development trajectory of the Republic of Korea is a unique example of how digital innovation and technological advancement can accelerate the path of countries and people to prosperity.
In just a few decades, Korea has transitioned from a low-income to a high-income nation, offering valuable lessons for emerging economies and developing countries looking to replicate its success.
To share this expertise, the Government of the Republic of Korea and the World Bank Group have announced their intention to establish a joint Digital Knowledge Center. This initiative was formalized by Korea’s First Vice Minister of Economy and Finance, Beomseok Kim, and World Bank’s Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde, in Seoul on December 6, 2024.
Through this partnership, the World Bank Group and the Republic of Korea aim to share Korea’s expertise, knowledge, and capabilities in digital transformation with countries around the world, including in low-income countries where the digital divide is most pronounced.
