Carlos Rodríguez-Castelán is the Practice Manager for the World Banks Group’s Poverty and Equity Global Practice (GP) in the Latin American and the Caribbean Region (LCR). Previously he held various positions in the World Bank including Lead Economist in the Poverty and Equity GP for LCR, Lead Economist in the Poverty and Equity GP for West and Central Africa, Global Lead of the Data for Policy Global Solutions Group (GSG), and Global Lead of the Markets and Institutions for Poverty Reduction GSG. He is a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA), and a Research Fellow at Mexico’s National Research System (SNI). Prior to joining the World Bank Group, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Global Economy and Development Program at the Brookings Institution.
At the World Bank he has led technical work and policy dialogue on causes and consequences of poverty and inequality, welfare effects of digital technologies, and distributional effects of economic reforms and private sector investments. He has also led regional studies on inequality and social risk management, lending operations on productive inclusion and statistical capacity building, as well as global public goods on poverty measurement and distributional effects of competition policy. He has published extensively on these issues in peer-reviewed academic journals and policy reports. He holds a Master’s and a PhD in Economics from Cornell University, and a Master in Public Policy degree from ITAM.
