Country Competitiveness and Vision of the Future
|
Website Description |
This web site concerns the efforts that the World Bank Institute, in cooperation with the government of Austria, made to promote peace in the Southeastern Europe region after the conflict there in the mid-1990s. In response to the needs mentioned by participants in prior activities in the region, in 1996 the World Bank Institute launched a program in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, FYR Macedonia, and Romania that seeks to develop local capacity to institute change. The two main pillars of the program were the concepts of competitiveness and a vision of the future, which provides a framework for linking economic development with human concerns. Working with dozens of partners, the program sought to involve all segments of society in contributing to a new foundation for the region.
