About the Toolkit
“A Toolkit for Informality Scenario Analysis” is a spreadsheet-based toolkit that allows researchers and practitioners to project the size of formal and informal labor, production, and growth in almost 100 countries yearly until 2040. The projections are based on the model presented in Loayza (2016), “Informality in the Process of Development and Growth,” The World Economy 39 (12): 1856-1916 (Policy Research Working Paper WPS7858, World Bank). The model studies the evolution of the informal sector as it relates to changes in capital, labor force, and, productivity, among other economic forces. The toolkit allows users to modify parameters, initial conditions, and assumptions to construct their own scenarios for the analysis of informality in countries and regions around the world.
