TDLC at a COP27 Side Event

Invited by the Japanese Ministry of Environment, TDLC made a virtual presentation at the Quad Workshop on Subnational Climate Action under Q-CHAMP, a side event of the Sharm el-Sheikh Climate Change Conference (COP27). Quad is a loose alliance of Japan, the United States, Australia and India that seeks to achieve a free, open, prosperous and inclusive Indo-Pacific region. The workshop discussed the role of national governments in defining and implementing a regional climate change action framework, and the importance of strengthening cooperation between national and central governments.

Maitreyi Bordia Das, Practice Manager of the Bank’s Global Practice of Urban, Disaster Risk Management, Resilience and Land, made a virtual presentation of the role of TDLC in curating and facilitating knowledge exchanges to prompt cities to climate change action. Christopher Pablo, TDLC Team Lead, joined the panel discussion and stressed the critical role of central government in supporting local governments bring climate change action plans into their priority programs.

The event was attended by the Japanese Minister for the Environment, the Australian Minister for Climate Change and Energy, and the mayors of Auckland and Brisbane.

A summary of the event is also available on the IGES website.
