Toolkits

  • Open Data for Business (OD4B) Tool helps increase the business use of government data through (1) increased private sector awareness of government data, (2) identification of high-value data and barriers to use, and (3) a recommended Action Plan to engage with private sector stakeholders on an ongoing basis. The Open Data for Business (OD4B) Tool provides a methodology to assess the private sector’s current and potential use of government data in various countries. 
  • Open Data Readiness Assessment (ODRA) Tool can be used to conduct an action-oriented assessment of the readiness of a government or individual agency to evaluate, design and implement an Open Data initiative. As part of the Open Government Data Toolkit, this tool is freely available for others to adapt and use.
  • Toolkit for Task Teams to Mainstream Data in Operations helps World Bank task teams incorporate data-smart initiatives into operations more systematically, across all sectors and country contexts. Taking a rights-based approach to data, the toolkit suggests a problem-driven methodology aligned with the stages of the World Bank project cycle and includes practical examples from existing operations with data components.

Data Literacy and Open Data Courses

  • Data course for local government in Tanzania is a modular curriculum to develop foundational data skills for students and trainers of the Local Government Training Institute. This curriculum is broken up into two different courses aimed at building basic data skills required for local government officers.
  • Data for Better Lives: A New Social Contract (MOOC) provides the overview of the 2021 World Development Report (WDR) and how data can be used for advancing development outcomes. This MOOC is intended for everyone interested in learning principles of a new social contract for data and data governance needed to transform lives for the poor.
  • Enhancing FCV Operations with Geospatial ICT Tools (MOOC) provides introduction to three types of geospatial ICT tools which can be utilized in an FCV setting- remote sensing, drones, and mobile phones. Each module contains an introductory video (or videos), interactive content, and a deeper dive into specific case studies.
  • Nepal Data Literacy Program comprises a 100-hour modular, customizable pedagogy to support both technical skills-building and efforts to enhance a ‘culture of data use’ among Nepalis. This is intended for everyone and can be customized based on needs of learners.
  • Open Data for Data Producers (MOOC) provides a broad overview of Open Data principles and best practices from the standpoint of a data producer, and empowers data managers and technical staff with the background and skills to contribute to the Open Data community. This course is primarily intended for managers and technical staff involved in the production, management, and curation of data, particularly within government ministries. It assumes no prior knowledge of Open Data or specific technical skills. Upon completion, users may take an online assessment test to obtain a completion certificate from the online platform.
  • Open Data for Data Users (MOOC) provides a broad overview of Open Data from a user standpoint and empowers anyone to take full advantage of Open Data. It is intended for anyone who wants to make better use of Open Data, including ordinary citizens, and assumes no prior knowledge of Open Data or technical skills. Upon completion, users may take an online assessment test to obtain a completion certificate from the online platform.
  • Open Data for Policymakers (MOOC) provides a general overview of Open Data principles and best practices for public policymakers, with focus on the development and implementation of an Open Data program. It is primarily intended for public policymakers in governments that are considering the establishment or expansion of an Open Data program and assumes no prior knowledge of Open Data or technical skills. This course is much shorter than the other two and provides no certificate option.
  • Sudan Evidence Base Program provides general overview of finding and analyzing data, visualizing data and making claims. The course is available in English and Arabic and takes just over five hours to complete.
