Combating Coastal Erosion in West Africa To Reconcile Communities and the Ocean

For decades, the West African coast has been ravaged by fast-moving coastal erosion, threatening lives, and destroying investments. Each year for instance, Benin and Togo lose about 15 meters of their coastline, leading to disastrous consequences. In 2018, hope has emerged with the launch of the West Africa Coastal Areas Management Program (WACA), the World Bank. Six years later, WACA’s results in both countries speak volumes.
