Burundi hosts five refugee camps with some 40,000 refugees originating from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). These provinces are also home to internally displaced persons and Burundians returning from neighboring countries. These populations are facing challenges such us natural disasters, unemployment, poor harvest, and some are even fleeing conflict.
The Burundi Integrated Community Development Project “PRODECI-Turikumwe” is supporting these communities through investments in socio-economic infrastructure and agricultural and nonagricultural livelihoods, addressing service delivery gaps and tackling rates of food insecurity and malnutrition. The project is addressing multiple challenges that the refugee and host community are facing at the same time and its design integrates multiple sectors.
Along with the DRC refugees, over 2 million in the host community will benefit from this project.
