This series features short interviews with the authors of the Gender Strategy Thematic Policy Notes. The notes provide an analytical groundwork for the World Bank Group Gender Strategy 2024-2030, and summarize key evidence on thematic issues, promising areas for future engagement on promoting gender equality and empowerment.
In this interview, Diego Ubfal, Senior Economist in the Gender Group, shares insights from the thematic note What Works in supporting Women-led Businesses, in particular some of the promising and more effective approaches to support women entrepreneurs. For instance, training programs focused on social and emotional skills, or trainings that consider the differential needs of women entrepreneurs have proved to be more effective than traditional business trainings.
"We need to continue with the approach of testing new ideas and adapting them to make them efficient and eventually help scaling them up".
