The Fifth Africa Climate Resilient Investment Summit ACRIS V, held virtually June 16-17, 2021, focused on embedding and financing climate resilience for Africa's green recovery. To kick-start the conversation, Simeon Ehui, Regional Director for Sustainable Development for Central and Western Africa at the World Bank Group provided an overview of the challenges and opportunities for green growth, saying “We can vaccinate ourselves against COVID-19, but we cannot vaccinate ourselves against climate change or poverty. That is why the World Bank is committed to supporting countries in implementing reforms that address both the impacts of climate change AND the pandemic.”
