In Niger, 99% of 10-year-olds cannot read or understand a short story and more than half of children between the ages of 7 and 12 are not in school due to a lack of facilities and resources. The LIRE project (Learning Improvement for Results in Education)—financed by the World Bank’s International Development Association or IDA—supports Niger's efforts to strengthen its education system. It will help improve the working conditions of teachers and the quality of learning in fragile regions so that all girls and boys are able to reach their full potential through a quality education.
