Women of Central Asia – On the COVID-19 Frontline

Cholpon Kasymalieva is a family physician in the Kyrgyz Republic. She is one of thousands of medical workers in her country who have been on the frontline battling COVID-19 since the first days of the pandemic. On International Women’s Day 2021, we celebrate Cholpon and other women around Central Asia and beyond. The World Bank is supporting the Kyrgyz Republic’s pandemic response through the Emergency COVID-19 Project.
