Women Development and Enterprise Groups were formed in April 2018 under the innovative Women’s Economic Empowerment component of the World Bank supported Azerbaijan Rural Investment Project. The objective is to provide support to the businesses of women in the regions. Currently, there are 38 groups with 468 members who own and manage 110 businesses in 14 regions of the country. Each group consists of 10-20 women from a neighborhood, who come together to save collectively and then use these savings as the seed capital to invest in their businesses. They are provided with financial literacy, as well as business and life skills by community business promoters trained for this program.
