Fish accounts for 50% of the quantity of animal sourced food consumed in Myanmar, making it the single most important animal protein. Despite employing 3.2 million people, the fisheries sector still lags behind other countries in the region, when it comes to economic output. If better managed, the fisheries sector could add US$ 1.5 billion in value to Myanmar’s economy.
