The North and North Eastern region of Kenya has been underserved for decades. As a result, poverty is higher than anywhere else in the country and communities lack access to basic services. In order to improve equity and reduce extreme poverty in the region, the Government of Kenya, with support from the World Bank, has launched the North and North Eastern Development Initiative (NEDI). This bold and transformative initiative is focused on integrated infrastructure investments in energy, transport and water, and a goal to connect the region to national and global markets.
