For years, discharge of untreated waste into the Black Sea caused major problems for the city of Odesa. The sea was polluted and barely suitable for swimming. Now, however, modernization of sewage works has stopped the pollution, ensuring a cleaner coast and creating more opportunities for tourism and local economic growth.
