Urbanization is occurring rapidly worldwide, and is responsible for increased pressure on the environment and natural resources. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) seek to address this concern, and SDG 11 specifically targets "Sustainable Cities and Communities." As a response to SDG 11, GEF is undertaking the Global Integrated Approach Program on Sustainable Cities, which is an effort to capture various opportunities related to urban development in 27 pilot cities in 11 developing countries.
