Although rapid economic growth has brought many benefits to India, the environment has suffered and costs India $80 billion per year or 5.7% of its GDP. A low-emission, resource-efficient greening of the economy is possible at a very low cost to growth, which would be offset by savings through improving health while substantially reducing carbon emissions.
