Every year during monsoons, Bangladesh is hit by deadly cyclones. Among the victims are a disproportionate amount of women and children. A combination of traditional gender roles and the absence of solid housing structures is to blame for the deaths of many women. With the help of the International Development Association, the World Bank's fund for the poorest, the European Union, AusAID, and IFAD, concrete shelters are being erected in order to provide a safe haven for women and children.
