NEW YORK, September 22 — This morning, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with President Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba of Burkina Faso.
President Malpass expressed his concern about the deteriorating security situation in Burkina Faso and its serious humanitarian and development impacts.
President Malpass updated President Damiba on the status of the recent World Bank Group (WBG) re-engagement with transition authorities. President Malpass highlighted to President Damiba the WBG’s people-focused interventions, which prioritize access to basic services, safety nets, agriculture, and food security, as well as resilience building and the prevention of conflict escalation. President Malpass and President Damiba also spoke on the importance of growth and job creation for Burkina Faso’s rapidly growing population and the need to improve conditions for the private sector.
President Malpass and President Damiba exchanged views on how to strengthen security in the Sahel Region. In this context, President Malpass expressed his appreciation for the work of the High-Level Independent Panel on Security and Development in the Sahel.
