NEW YORK, September 21, 2022 —Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Dr. Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry & Advanced Technology and Climate Envoy for the United Arab Emirates.
President Malpass and Minister Al Jaber discussed the energy transition in the context of integrating climate and development, and the UAE’s progress on reducing the carbon intensity of its supply chains. President Malpass emphasized to Minister Al Jaber the much-needed importance of grid development in many countries to support the integration of renewable energy and to provide reliable supply.
President Malpass and Minister Al Jaber also exchanged views on the opportunities provided by methane emissions reduction projects as well as emerging green hydrogen solutions. President Malpass was happy to reaffirm to Minister Al Jaber the World Bank Group’s (WBG) support to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as they begin advance preparations to host the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) next year.
