World Bank Group Warns of Fake IFC Loan Applications

The World Bank Group is warning entrepreneurs and small business owners of an online scam offering loans from the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The IFC does not lend directly to individuals.

Perpetrators have created a series of fake websites, emails, loan application forms and URLs to impersonate IFC in Zimbabwe. Websites such as ifcbusiness.org and ifcbusiness.org/sme-loans encourage downloading and filling out fake applications, allowing them to gather information that can be used for future illegal purposes.

IFC has no involvement with these fake websites, or the call for applications. We caution the public to be wary of these and similar websites that falsely claim to be associated with IFC or other members of the World Bank Group.
