TOKYO, September 13 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki of Japan.
President Malpass thanked Finance Minister Suzuki for his strong support for and Japan’s leadership on IDA20, as well as for Japan’s parallel financing for projects in Ukraine that will help the government provide critical services to the Ukrainian people.
President Malpass and Finance Minister Suzuki discussed key global development challenges including debt and debt transparency, inflation, shortages of energy, fertilizer and food, pandemic preparedness and universal health care. In this context, President Malpass expressed the importance of non-fragmented assistance as exemplified by IDA.
President Malpass expressed to Finance Minister Suzuki the World Bank Group’s commitment to supporting Japan’s G7 Presidency next year. President Malpass also expressed his sincerest condolences to Minister Suzuki on the passing of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
