IDA GRANT: US$15 million
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project seeks to support the development of the National Protected Areas System in Colombia by consolidating a Biodiversity and Protected Areas Trust Fund. The fund was established during the project’s preparation phase as a private-sector foundation with a private-sector majority on its board and a mandate to execute public-sector conservation policies related to the national protected areas system. The fund will manage both endowment and sinking funds: the endowment will support incremental, recurrent costs in protected areas, while sinking funds will undertake direct investments in protected areas and surrounding complementary landscapes, named conservation mosaics.
