The World Bank, Women Political Leaders, and the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and IMF partnered to produce a two-part video series Female Parliamentarians in the fight against COVID-19 featuring interviews with nearly 30 Female Speakers of Parliament, influential Members of Parliament, and leaders from around the world.
The parliamentary response to the COVID-19 pandemic has exemplified the importance of committed leaders at the helm of parliaments. Through exceptional measures, emergency legislation, and stimulus packages, as well as monitoring government management and spending, they have helped ensure inclusive and democratic solutions to an unprecedented global health emergency.
The year 2020 is a significant milestone on the gender equality agenda, marking both Beijing +25 and only a decade left to deliver on the 2030 SDGs. Female Parliamentarians in the fight against COVID-19 highlights the vital role of women legislators in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, sending messages of hope and inspiration to empower women and girls to make 2020 stand out even stronger as a landmark year for gender equality.
