GPSA’s second round of grants for social accountability projects
Between November 2013 and January 2014, the Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA) launched its second Call for Proposals on Social Accountability for CSOs in 33 countries to win grants ranging from $500,000 - $1,000,000.
Now, the pre-selected project proposals are open to public review. Share your thoughts between April 30 and May 5, 2014.
The GPSA received 428 proposals from 33 countries. Civil Society Organizations from Ghana actively participated in the call for proposals, submitting a total of 36 of proposals. SEND-GHANA, with a proposal on “Making the Budget Work for Ghana,” is one of 8 finalists preselected for a GPSA grant.
Selections were made by the GPSA Steering Committee, based on the reviews by a group of technical experts worldwide; and information on the submitted proposals, selection process and roster of experts can be found on the GPSA website.
Topics in Ghana
In Ghana, the GPSA received Social Accountability proposals from CSOs that addressed the following areas.
- Implement social accountability mechanisms to promote citizens' monitoring of the budget to improve transparency and quality of public service delivery. The outcomes and information produced will support government’s efforts in improving accountability around the budget process.
- Implement social accountability mechanisms to monitor education sector policies and services to improve students learning outcomes. The information produced will be used by the government to expand access, improve quality, and promote equity in education across the country.
- Institutional strengthening, capacity-building and networking activities through a “learning-by-doing” and synergizing approach that will result in the CSO’s enhanced capacity to plan and implement social accountability in well a coordinated manner
The public disclosure period of the proposals is now open
Now you can review and comment on the pre-selected proposal during a five-day public disclosure period. The GPSA takes all comments received into consideration before giving the final approval of the project. The disclosure period will end on May 5, 2014.

The GPSA
The Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA) supports civil society and governments to work together to solve critical governance challenges in developing countries. To achieve this objective, the GPSA provides strategic and sustained support to CSOs’ social accountability initiatives aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability. It builds on the World Bank’s direct and ongoing engagement with public sector actors, as well as a network of Global Partner organizations, to create an enabling environment in which citizen feedback is used to solve fundamental problems in service delivery and to strengthen public institutions.
