The World Bank and partners launched “India SEWA 2025 Digital Financial Inclusion of Informal Sector” project (approved on March 22, 2019), under a US$ 2.73 million grant by the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) in partnership of the Government of Japan, to foster increased use of digital financial services by women engaged in informal activities in selected States in India.
The project is aiming at reaching at least 500,000 women from low income and marginalized households in six states, namely Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Assam and Gujarat. The project is enhancing financial literacy and proficiency in using mobile technology among target groups, and catalyzing adoption of digital financial services so that these households can access formal financial instruments for improved livelihoods.
At this online seminar (17th JSDF Dialogue Seminar), the task team from the World Bank and the implementing partner SEWA shared experiences through the project.
