Global evidence suggests that well-functioning land institutions and appropriate land policies could greatly help African countries respond to the challenges of climate change, urban expansion, structural transformation, and gender equality. However, evidence from many African countries suggests that institutional shortcomings, that are often rooted in outdated laws and regulations, limit these benefits. The Land Policies for Resilient and Equitable Growth in Africa report analyzes these shortcomings and proposes policy responses for African countries’ unique and varied contexts.
