Jamaica's digital transformation, led by the country's Vision 2030, is driving significant changes in its economy and society. Achievements include bringing high-speed broadband to 90 schools and investing over US$2 million in emergency broadband infrastructure. Efforts to modernize governmental processes are underway, such as upgrading the eGov Data Centre and digitalizing tax and welfare transactions.

On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, the World Bank will host a two-hour workshop as part of a series of dissemination events designed to raise awareness of The Digital Economy Initiative for Latin America and Caribbean (DE4LAC) Framework, aiming to support national authorities in LAC countries in identifying reform and investment opportunities to accelerate the transition to an inclusive digital economy. The Jamaica Country Diagnostic report serves as input to guide Jamaica’s digital transformation strategy, in line with the country’s aspirations and its Vision 2030 National Development Plan.

The report is based on the World Bank’s Digital Economy Assessment methodology, which analyzes the digital economy across six pillars: digital infrastructure, digital public platforms, digital financial services, digital businesses, digital skills, and trust environment. It examines the current state of Jamaica’s digital ecosystem, including its strengths and weaknesses, and outlines a set of priority actions for the GoJ to accelerate its digital transformation. The report also provides a comprehensive set of recommendations that the GoJ may consider incorporating into its short- and medium-term policy and budget planning cycles to leverage digital technologies across the six pillars outlined above.

In this event, the DE4LAC Jamaica team will present main findings from the report, as alongside a panel discussion on Digital Transformation – Creating Opportunities for Jamaica and Enabling the Digital Economy with national key stakeholders and international experts.
