People and communities are the forefront of climate impacts. But only 10 percent of global climate funds reach communities directly, imposing constraints on both national and local governments, as well as communities, in their efforts to transition toward green, resilient, and sustainable economies. Various efforts for scaling locally led climate action (LLCA) have been increasing in the last few years following the endorsement of the eight principles for locally led adaptation, highlighting the need of climate resilience activities to be participatory, locally led, and fully transparent.
This session will report on results of locally led climate action operations at the World Bank and will highlight some of the key institutional and structural challenges for scaling up this approach.
This session will also touch on the implementation of LLCA in fragile and conflict areas and will highlight innovative and practical approaches to strengthening resilience, while also contributing to peacebuilding.
