TOKYO/WASHINGTON, D.C., January 17-18, 2023 – World Bank Group senior management had a series of engagements with Japanese parliamentarians in both Tokyo and Washington, D.C. First, World Bank President David Malpass had a meeting in Washington with the Honorable Takeaki Matsumoto, Chair of the Japan Chapter, MP (Lower House) and Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications. Second, Mari Pangestu, Managing Director for Development Policy and Partnerships (MDD), while visiting Tokyo, attended a meeting of the Japan Chapter and paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Akiko Santo, former Upper House President and Chair of the Parliamentary League on Nutrition and Global Health. Japan’s G7 presidency and the partnership between Japan and the World Bank Group that spans over 70 years were at the center of the discussions at these meetings.
