“Informality in South Asia” is a regional flagship research program led by the Office of the Chief Economist for South Asia. The project aims at better understanding how to increase productivity and job quality in the informal sector by addressing underlying market and institutional failures and leveraging new technologies. It has three major themes: raising productivity; strengthening social protection and economic inclusion of informal workers; and improving taxation.
At this event, the team presents an overview of emerging messages from this project. The presentation is followed by a debate featuring academics and World Bank colleagues who are working on these topics.
