Objective: As a follow-up to the 2018 Edmonton Cities and Climate Change Science Conference, the Innovate4Cities 2021 Conference (I4C) aims to bolster knowledge, support solutions, and mobilize the potential of cities to lead zero-carbon and climate-resilient transformation. I4C will contribute to the COP26 in November, and to the Special Report on Climate Change and Cities in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Seventh Assessment Report (AR7) cycle.

About the Session: These are unprecedented times where cities are the epicenter of compounding opportunities and of challenges. To help cities be better equipped it is critical to mobilize urban climate finance, improve data and improve cities’ balance sheets and transparency.

The Global Plenary Session 7 on Financing the Transition & Mobilizing Urban Climate Finance will bring together panelists from champion organizations to discuss the latest concepts and solutions on mobilizing urban climate finance at scale. It will present key messages on the enabling conditions for urban climate finance bringing attention to the importance of aligning country, city and climate-specific enabling environments and discuss examples and resources available.

Audience: The Innovate4Cities Conference will reach a virtual audience of 1,000 city leaders, urban practitioners, national government representatives, scientists, researchers, innovators, academics, civil society groups, youth, and business people. Together, we aim to advance pragmatic, action-oriented research and science that will help cities reduce their carbon footprint and increase their resilience to climate change.
