The World Bank Group Controller and Deloitte Annual Finance and Accounting Conference

The Annual Finance and Accounting Conference will be held in two virtual sessions on May 26, 2021 and May 27, 2021. The workshop brings together leading experts from Deloitte for an in-depth discussion on current accounting and finance issues facing the Banking industry.

NOTE: This event is currently only open to World Bank Group, IMF, IADB, and other Multilateral Development Bank (MDB) staff.

  • Jointly sponsored by the WBG Controller and Deloitte, this virtual conference brings together leading experts from Deloitte for an in-depth discussion on current accounting and finance issues facing the Banking industry. The conference will also feature interactive Q&A sessions with the speakers.

    There will be in-depth discussions on new US GAAP, IFRS accounting pronouncements and developments in corporate reporting. Other topics include enhancing the working relationship in the financial reporting supply chain and cyber security.

    As in previous years, the conference attracts finance and accounting professionals across the World Bank Group, as well as the International Monetary Fund and the Inter-American Development Bank. This conference qualifies for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits. To receive the full 5.5 hours of CPE credit you must attend all sessions in their entirety, and engage with all polling questions on both days. When entering your Zoom session you must login with your full legal name that should appear on your CPE Certificate.

    Alexander Braier

    Managing Director, Deloitte Consulting LLP

    Alex Braier is a Managing Director and serves as Deloitte’s Public Sector Leader for Organizational Strategy, Design, and Transition. Alex has led or helped to lead some of the largest transformation efforts in the Federal Government during his 25+ years of consulting, with broad experience working with eight of the 15 cabinet level agencies, as well as many independent agencies of the U.S. government, state and local governments, multi-lateral agencies, and public sectors around the world.

    Amy A. Titus

    Managing Director, Deloitte Consulting LLP

    Dr. Amy A. Titus is a Managing Director in Human Capital at Deloitte Consulting. She brings over twenty-five years of global experience in all aspects of human capital and human resources directed to improve organizational performance and address the future of work. She leads the Government and Public Service Learning and Leadership Market Offering and Deloitte’s pro-bono activities in education for the greater Washington D.C. area. Before joining Deloitte, she held senior leadership roles, spanning the full range of talent and human resource functions, at BearingPoint, FifthThird Bank and Citigroup. Prior to that, she founded and led a global management consulting firm that had offices in Washington, DC, Geneva, Switzerland and Cairo, Egypt. Noted for her work in workforce transformation, she has won numerous awards and is a sought-after presenter and writer. She is on the International Advisory Council of the United States Institute of Peace, the Learning Advisory Council for Doctors without Borders, and the College Bound Board. Dr. Titus holds a Masters in Instructional Systems from the University of Minnesota and a Doctorate in Adult Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.

    Besnik Skenderi

    Senior Manager, Deloitte Consulting LLP

    Besnik is a Senior Manager with 18 years of experience in capital markets risk management, structured finance deal modeling and structuring, quantitative finance, and model risk validation. At Deloitte, Besnik is leading LIBOR transition engagements starting with impact assessments and followed by end-to-end transition planning and execution. Besnik continues to advise clients on model validation which includes experience in consumer banking business and CCAR models, PPNR models, building of the MRM governance infrastructure. Besnik worked on BAC, JPM, Citi and other bank MRM engagements. Besnik is a multi-skilled quant who can do the deep dive analysis, manage top level quant teams, ensure smooth delivery and client communication at senior executive level, and manage projects.

    Daniel Bachman

    Senior Manager, Economic Insights, Deloitte

    Daniel Bachman, Ph.D., is an experienced U.S. and international macroeconomic forecaster and modeler. He has led and participated in forecasting teams in both the public and private sectors and led the development of sophisticated modeling tools for those forecasting teams. Dr. Bachman has substantial experience in teaching and training in both classroom and in corporate and government settings around the world. He is experienced in communicating complex economic ideas to broad audiences through written reports, op-eds, web articles, speeches, economic outlook presentations, and college courses. Dr. Bachman has advised presidential appointees and corporate planners for Fortune 500 companies on economic ideas and events, and he has represented the U.S. government at international economic organizations.

    Mark Mellen

    Senior Manager, Deloitte Consulting LLP

    Mark has over thirteen years of experience helping clients manage risk. He currently serves as a senior manager within Deloitte’s Sustainability & KPI services group. He focuses on advising companies on their quest to improve through Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) integration in governance, process and control, metrics, and disclosure. He advises on globally recognized ESG Standards and frameworks including Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) among others. Primary industry experience includes technology, media and entertainment, energy and resources, consumer, and manufacturing.

    Matthew J. Iandoli

    Managing Director, Government Relations, Deloitte

    Matt Iandoli is a Managing Director with the Policy & Government Relations team of Deloitte LLP. In this role, Matt advises Deloitte’s senior leadership on regulatory and legislative issues that impact the firm. Prior to joining Deloitte, Matt was a Director of Congressional and Political Affairs for the American Institute of CPAs where he was responsible for lobbying all Members of the House of Representatives and Senate for issues relevant to his portfolio. Matt also served as Legislative Director and Counsel for a number of years for a senior member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Chris Cannon of Utah. Through this position, Matt managed all legislative issues for the Congressman’s office and also was the primary staff member for Cannon relating to his Committee assignment on the House Judiciary Committee. Prior to joining Cannon’s office, Matt was the Policy Director in charge of the legislative and communications agenda for the House Western Caucus, which was comprised of over 60 members of the House of Representatives. Before moving to Capitol Hill, Matt worked at a lobbying firm as he pursued his law degree at night. Matt is a graduate of Georgetown University and the Catholic University School of Law.

    Nitish Idnani

    Principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP

    Nitish is a Deloitte & Touche LLP principal with Deloitte Risk & Financial Advisory. He leads the Operational Risk Management Services group. He has more than 20 years of experience in capital markets and risk and regulatory consulting. Nitish’s primary focus is the delivery of large complex projects for clients in the financial services industry, specifically projects requiring review and transformation of risk operating models, risk and controls governance, and assessment and enhancement of operational risk management programs. Recently, Nitish has been assisting clients with the introduction of big data techniques and leveraging analytic and predictive models to deliver increased value to operational risk managers and their programs. Nitish has performed several businesses and operational risk assessments, including strategic reviews of investment banks and specific products across risk culture and reputation, risk assessment, and internal controls. He has deep experience around sales, trading, and the review of global banks’ processes and controls to mitigate the risk of unauthorized trading. Nitish’s other operational risk engagements have included the assessment of policies and procedures for the management of various non-financial risk taxonomies.

    Patrick Freeze Givens

    Managing Director, Government Relations, Deloitte LLP

    Patrick serves as a managing director of government relations for Deloitte LLP. In this capacity, he advises the firm’s leadership on emerging political and regulatory trends impacting the partnership. Drawing on his experience and deep network in Washington, D.C., he develops and executes legislative strategies in state capitals, Washington and globally in order to advance the firm’s business interests. Prior to joining Deloitte in 2008, Patrick worked on Capitol Hill for two Members of Congress. He helped develop and promote policies in the U.S. House of Representatives ranging from affordable homeowners insurance legislation to funding for Everglades restoration. Patrick successfully shepherded legislation through Congress and onto the President’s desk that protected small businesses conducting certain types of credit card transactions from unfair lawsuits. Patrick graduated from the University of Florida in 2003 with a B.A. in political science and obtained a M.A. in political management from the George Washington University in 2005.

    Paul Flatin

    Specialist Leader, Deloitte Consulting LLP

    Paul is a Specialist Leader in the Deloitte Federal Human Capital Practice in Washington, DC. He has 20 years of experience in advising clients on complex organizational and strategic challenges including organizational change, transformation management, organizational assessments and design, survey development and data analysis, talent management, leadership development, top team alignment, and other leadership and organizational issues across multiple industries. Paul has deep expertise in mindset and behavior change and how relationships and informal networks in an organization can be used to promote change, innovation, leadership effectiveness, as well as quality of life/ employee engagement. He is helping to lead a portfolio of analytics including Organizational Network Analysis (ONA) and OrgSuite for GPS clients.

    Robert Uhl

    Partner, U.S. Audit & Assurance, Deloitte & Touche LLP

    Bob Uhl is a partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP-U.S. where he is the firm’s National Director of Accounting Standards and leader of the U.S. IFRS Centre of Excellence. Bob also has global roles in Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited as the Senior Technical Advisor within the Global Audit & Assurance Quality Team and the U.S. representative on the Global IFRS Leadership Team. In these roles, he is responsible for formulating policies for and monitoring audit and assurance quality; responding to standard setters and formulating policies on accounting matters under both U.S. and international accounting standards; and, consulting with Deloitte professionals, clients, and other parties. Bob is currently a member of the International Accounting Standards Board’s IFRS Interpretations Committee and was a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board’s Emerging Issues Task Force (2007-2020). He is and has been active in standard setting including participation in FASB, AICPA and IASB working groups and other standard setting forums. Bob is a frequent presenter on U.S. and international accounting topics. From 1997 to 1999, Bob was a Professional Accounting Fellow in the Office of the Chief Accountant of the Securities and Exchange Commission. In addition, in his over 30 years of experience, Bob has held various other roles in Deloitte’s Professional Practice Network and Stamford, Connecticut audit practice.
